I used to be a fan of Wisdom-Soft ScreenHunter. One of the old versions that I used was simple to operate. I just needed to hit F6, and a screenshot would be made. Well then, I switched to a new computer, and the old version is no longer available. So, I downloaded the latest version of Wisdom-Soft ScreenHunter.
This one is a bit tricky to use. Selecting the “current window” won’t necessarily take a screenshot of the current window; instead, sometimes, the menu bar was being captured; it happens randomly. I have no idea why. And then after the trial period, a watermark will appear to remind to pay up for a license.
I think that’s fair. If you happen to like software well enough, you will pay for a license, or find some way to repay the author, like donating, or some other way. But somehow, this latest version doesn’t work well like the old one, and I decided to look for something else.
I found Greenshot (https://getgreenshot.org). Greenshot is completely free and open-source. So far, I think this is the best free screenshot software which is user-friendly. A light piece of software doesn’t require you to set this and that. Hit Alt and PrintScreen, and you get a screenshot output to your selected directory. Simple and Easy. I bet that’s the software most people are looking for.
What is Greenshot?
Greenshot is a light-weight screenshot software tool for Windows with the following key features:
– Quickly create screenshots of a selected region, window or fullscreen; you can even capture complete (scrolling) web pages from Internet Explorer.
– Easily annotate, highlight or obfuscate parts of the screenshot.
– Export the screenshot in various ways: save to file, send to the printer, copy to clipboard, attach to e-mail, send Office programs or upload to photo sites like Flickr or Picasa, and others.
Well, the latest Windows stable release is Greenshot-RELEASE-1.2.10.6, 09 Aug 2017. Yes, 2017, don’t get scared; it still works pretty nice. The Mac version costs $1.99 at the app store.
